"The journey from Calais to Boulogne is a delightful stroll. The road winds through the most beautiful landscapes in the world. The hills and valleys rise and fall in magnificent undulations. […] Truly, I am dazzled every day by all the wonders God creates with green and blue."

Why Wimereux and the Opal Coast?
The Opal Coast has always attracted thousands of tourists each summer, but in recent years, this number has skyrocketed. Some even say that the Opal Coast will become the future French Riviera in terms of tourist traffic. The Opal Coast is a relatively vast region that can accommodate many tourists and offers a variety of activities and remarkable places. The northern region of France is still a place that many people fear due to its weather. Enough with the clichés—summer in the North is sunny, warm, and full of beautiful weather (you might have noticed, during the 2020 lockdown, Le Touquet was the sunniest town in France during spring). What will you find in our travel guide?
As lovers of the Opal Coast, we have created this guide to offer you the best things to do in the region: Activities, Museums, Beaches, Restaurants, Campsites, and other accommodations… The “Practical” section provides useful information on how to get to Wimereux or the Opal Coast: the Wimereux Tourist Office, the city’s history, the tide times in Wimereux, the map, as well as a near-real-time view of Wimereux beach thanks to a webcam positioned towards Wimereux beach. A “News” section will offer the latest updates from the towns of the coast, as well as tips and ideas for outings on the Opal Coast. The essentials of the Opal Coast
Wimereux takes its name from the small stream that, after passing through a dozen picturesque villages in the Boulonnais hinterland, flows into the English Channel, between Pointe aux Oies and the seafront promenade.
Don’t expect anything extraordinary in the Wimereux Valley. Here, everything is simple. But around a moss-covered path, you may be surprised to catch sight of the stately silhouette of a charming residence or a small castle. There are no less than 52 of these hidden in the Wimereux Valley!
With the 1992 law, municipalities came together to work collaboratively. The Communities of Municipalities and Agglomerations were born. Wimereux is part of the Boulonnais Agglomeration Community, the CAB. Economic and tourism development, employment… all major projects are driven by the agglomeration, for the benefit of the entire region.
The Caps et Marais d’Opale Regional Natural Park stretches from Boulogne to Calais. Wimereux is part of it. The town benefits from the expertise of the park’s technicians and the protection of its natural and built heritage. Pointe aux Oies and La Crèche are exceptional viewpoints and extraordinary wildlife and floral reserves.
Recently declared a “Grand Site of the Two Caps,” the coastline enjoys enhanced protection to ensure that its landscapes, fauna, and flora retain their authenticity and diversity.
Herne Bay (UK) and Schmallenberg (DE) are Wimereux’s twin towns. The exchanges have brought the people closer together and will soon allow for the development of common links through specific tourist routes or products.
