Marquise isn't a destination, it's a position. The town is a quarter of an hour from Cap Gris-Nez, the same from Cap Blanc-Nez, ten minutes from Wimereux and three minutes from the A16 — which makes it one of the best bases in the area for exploring the Two Capes.
It's also a land of stone. The Boulonnais quarries, around Marquise, have been worked for centuries and rank among the most important in France: part of the landscape, and part of the local economy.

By car, exit 36 of the A16, twenty minutes from both Calais and Boulogne-sur-Mer.
No train station in passenger service: the nearest is Marquise-Rinxent on the Boulogne–Calais line, with a limited timetable.
Information about the town
For a visitor, the appeal of Marquise is above all practical: accommodation is cheaper here than on the seafront, and the whole Grand Site des Deux Caps is under twenty minutes away. It's what many families do for a week on the coast.
The town itself is quickly crossed. What's worth the detour is all around it: the Boulonnais hills, the waymarked trails, and the stone villages that punctuate the road to the capes.
