The factory outlets of Calais

Thierry D · 3 min read

Planning to stay in the town of Calais? For your shopping, you're probably looking for factory outlets near the town. No need to worry any further! Among these shopping centres, you'll find Channel Outlet Store and Cité de l'Europe. Here's everything you need to know about these shops.

Channel Outlet Store

Opened in 2003, Channel Outlet Store is a fashion and trends centre on the Opal Coast. It boasts more than a hundred outstanding brands, including Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas, Hugo Boss, Delsey, Zadig et Voltaire, Charles le Golf and Little Marcel. Channel Outlet Store is one of the only shopping destinations where prices are cut by nearly 30% all year round.

The centre is located right next to Calais in Coquelles, on the international Channel Tunnel site — less than 5 minutes from Calais town centre, to be precise. If you're coming by car, the centre has a free car park for you.

All year round, this centre runs major clearance sales at unbeatable prices. This warehouse is unquestionably a place for the best deals. You're bound to find your favourite brands there, including:

  • private sales
  • clearance events
  • stock clearances
  • and special sales events from the biggest brands.

For some time now, access to the centre has been conditional on holding a health pass. In place of this document, you can also show a vaccination certificate or proof of a negative RT-PCR test at the entrance. A negative antigen test less than 72 hours old, or a recovery certificate less than 11 days and less than 6 months old, are also valid.

The factory outlet is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 7pm, and every Sunday from 11am to 7pm. Finally, from Thursday 26 to Monday 30 August, Channel Outlet Store is running a brand-new event called Braderie Outlet. Expect some great deals!

Cité de l'Europe

Cité de l'Europe in Calais

Cité de l'Europe is a shopping centre in northern France, in Coquelles and in the Pas-de-Calais département. It's about 4 km from the town of Calais, close to the Eurotunnel terminal under the Channel and the A16 motorway. Cité de l'Europe is also close to Calais-Fréthun station and can be reached via line 1 of Calais's Imag’in network.

Like Chanel Outlet Store, Cité de l'Europe is one of the largest shopping centres in the Hauts-de-France region. It's especially known as a draw for many day-trippers and travellers passing through from the UK. Most residents of Calais do their shopping there.

Cité de l'Europe is home to more than a hundred shops, ranging from big and small French and international brands.

These brands specialise in:

  • fashion
  • games and leisure
  • beauty
  • wellbeing
  • furniture
  • decoration, etc.

They also offer products in electronics, household appliances and mobile phones. This centre has a cinema complex and a play area to keep you entertained. You'll also find a food court there, with pubs and fast-food outlets.

In short, for your shopping trips and errands in Calais, you have two options. You can head to Channel Outlet Store or to Cité de l'Europe.
