A major destination for leisure tourism, the Hauts-de-France region is also full of cultural treasures. Take the Atlantic Wall Museum, Todt Battery, dedicated to the remnant of the same name, built on the orders of the German army at the height of the Second World War fighting. Welcoming the public in Audinghen, on Cap Gris-Nez, the Atlantic Wall Museum and its Todt Battery offer a unique immersion into this dark period of history, plunging visitors into the heart of the formidable German bunkers.

The Todt Battery, the German army's crown jewel

The idyllic landscapes, the warmth of its inhabitants, the melting pot of its visitors — today they make the Opal Coast a haven of peace.

This harmony and calm are all the more deeply rooted in the region's DNA and that of its people, because everyone has been keen to never forget the painful battles fought in the North during the Second World War.

A powerful symbol of the ambitions of the warring parties involved in this war, and running along most of the French coastline, the Atlantic Wall remains especially associated with the North of France, because of the presence of the Todt Battery, as formidable as it is remarkable.

Abandoned by the German army after the Armistice but spared the ravages of time, its bunkers are open to the public via the Audinghen Museum, on Cap Gris-Nez.

While it's often told from the perspective of French soldiers in history books and other memorial sites, the Second World War takes on a different dimension at the Atlantic Wall Museum, Todt Battery.

At the heart of the bunker, the immersion is total, and it's military life on the German side that's revealed.
