Map of Wimereux and the Opal Coast

Where it is, and how long it takes to get from one town to another

Where is Wimereux?

Wimereux sits on the Pas-de-Calais coast, between Boulogne sur Mer to the south and Calais to the north. The resort is six kilometres from the centre of Boulogne, which makes it one of the most central bases for visiting the coast: Les Deux Caps are twenty minutes away, Le Touquet three-quarters of an hour.

On the map, each town links to its page. The two green triangles mark Cap Gris-Nez and Cap Blanc-Nez, which together form the Grand Site des Deux Caps.

Distances from Boulogne sur Mer

Boulogne is the most useful landmark on the coast: it's the most central town, and the one you arrive at by train. Here's how long it takes to reach the other stops along the coast.

Rough guides under normal conditions. Allow more time in summer on the coast road, the D940, which is beautiful but slow.

How long does it take to cross the Opal Coast?

An hour separates Le Touquet from Cap Blanc-Nez, the two ends of the area. That's not much on paper, but it's why you can't really see the coast properly in a single day: between stops, car parks and meals, a day covers one area, not three.

The simplest way to split it up: Le Touquet and Montreuil in the south, Boulogne and its neighbouring resorts in the middle, Les Deux Caps and Calais in the north. One area a day, and you'll see three times as much.
