The webcam is hosted by Windy. It only loads if you ask it to: until you click, no data goes to that service.
What the webcam tells you before you leave
A beach webcam isn't there to look pretty. On the Opal Coast, it answers three questions the weather forecast can't.
Where the tide is at
This is the most useful one. At a glance, you can see whether there's still sand or whether the water's already hitting the sea wall. Cross-check it with the tide times if you're planning a walk out to the Pointe aux Oies.
Whether it's busy
On a Sunday in August, the difference between 10am and 3pm shows up instantly on the image, and it decides where you'll be able to park.
Whether the wind's any good
The sails out on the water and the state of the sea tell you more than a reading in knots. If the kites are out, the sailing club is running.
The weather on the coast
The Opal Coast has weather that changes fast: it's not unusual to have a shower in Boulogne and sunshine in Wissant, thirty kilometres away. A live picture beats a three-day forecast, especially if you live under two hours away and can decide on the morning.
